You ever ended a relationship with a significant other and you see them flourishing afterwards? Not like “oh they got new haircuts and clothes” flourishing. I’m talking about, “they got with a baddie, their smile is on 10, they look like they’re living their best life” flourishing! The “I’m living in Wakanda now, don’t call me no more peasant” flourishing. And of course, you’re shaking your head in disbelief. You want them to look back and miss you. You think you’re a 10 and the person they get with is a low 4 when the natural light hits their face. You want to think that you’re the best they ever had (No Drake and that terrible video) until you learn that you’re not after looking at their IG or Facebook. They’re exuding pure joy and don’t have not one f*** to give about you. They are truly living their best life.
After seeing them with “new bae”, you’re disappointed. You start to question whether or not they were actually all that bad to begin with. Were you really the problem? Did you deserve them? Was that argument over that one episode in that one show really that big of a deal? Probably not. Then you look over at YOUR significant other and utter disappointment floods your body. You think back to your ex and realize that you didn’t deserve them.
Yes, it took me two paragraphs to describe my feelings about seeing these recent photos of President Obama and First Lady Michelle (they’re still in office, just taking an infinite vacation in Wakanda right now). Just look at them! Being in love. Le sigh! In all seriousness, I’m happy for them because they deserve joy after how this country treated both of them for eight years. But damn! I didn’t think they’d just dip out and go on to have their best lives while everyone else is in despair about 45. Despite his neoliberal policies and questionable decision-making, Obama was better alternative to 45. This man looks genuinely happy to not be the official President anymore and seems to love his life/wife more than ever. In hindsight, we didn’t deserve Michelle and Barack. Seeing them so happy takes me back to a popular scene from Baby Boy.
Michelle and Barack are done with us. It’s been more than a year and I’m still hurting. They don’t love us no more.
